Now since we got the definition down why don’t we get into some ways how to implement it into not only work but our daily life.

1. Practicing self - Advocacy

Practicing self advocacy strengthens assertiveness by empowering individuals to powerfully express their needs and rights. It builds self –  confidence and reinforces the ability to communicate effectively. By consistently standing up for oneself, individuals develop the skills to handle challenging situations, leading to more respecting and productive interactions in both personal and professional settings. We all at some point need to stop being everyone else’s cheerleader once in a while hey maybe most of the time and advocate for ourself because it all starts with self and how are you going to believe in someone else if you can’t even believe in oneself. So lets go to the second way you can install this into your life shall we.

Up next is body language, body language enhances assertiveness by reinforcing verbal communication with confident, non- verbal cues. Maintaining eye contact, a strong posture, and using deliberate gestures convey confidence and clarity. Positive body language signals self – assurance, making your message more compelling and helping to establish respect and authority in interactions. Use body language not to seriously because there are moments we all want to relax share some laughs, jokes, and just talk about life but learn how to turn it on and off be be aware of your surroundings and not come off the way you don’t want to. So now lets go on to the next way to build assertiveness.  

3. Active Listening

Next up active listening, active listening enhances assertiveness by demonstrating respect and understanding for others viewpoints. It fosters effective communication, allowing you to respond thoughtfully and assertively. By acknowledging others perspective, you create a balanced dialogue, which strengthens your position and facilitates mutually respectful, productive interactions. And it helps you to learn lessons from others without having to go through a situation yourself which helps you be token more of an authority figure a lot more quick and easier than the rest shows your a fast learner and can get the job done also for personal life if not more important. 4. Using (I) Statements

Next is using (I) statements, using “I” statements enhances assertiveness by focusing on your feelings and needs without blaming others. This approach reduces defensiveness and encourages open communication. For example saying “I” feel overlooked when my ideas aren’t considered clearly expresses your perspective and fosters a constructive dialogue, promoting mutual interest and respect. So always use it carefully, please keep that in mind because, you want to come off as assertive when you use the “I” statement and don’t or stop saying negative things to yourself, always use it for self – worth sayings to yourself things  like “I” think I’m deserving, confident, need a raise, need a promotion whatever it is use it in a way that lifts you up instead of depress you trust me you will be thankful you did.

5. Setting boundaries

Our fifth example is setting boundaries, setting boundaries enhances assertiveness by clearly defining your limits and expectations, ensuring your needs are respected. It empowers you to communicate what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior, fostering mutual respect. By consistently enforcing boundaries, you build confidence in advocating for yourself and maintaining healthy, relationships in both professional and personal relationships. Now I’m not saying completely cut people off or anything but just tell them hey this is what makes me feel comfortable and if you can respect that I would greatly appreciate  the gesture if you don’t mind. Just always remember if you don’t feel like your being token seriously the way that person is taking you it is imperative to let the person know or take other precautions such as boundaries.

6. Clear Communication

And our last and final way of how can I improve my assertiveness in the workplace involves clear communication. Clear communication boost assertiveness by conveying your thoughts and needs and unambiguously. It reduces misunderstandings and ensures that your message is understood as intended. This straightforward approach fosters respect and facilitates productive dialogue, enabling you to advocate for yourself effectively while maintaining positive relationships. It shows that you are a mature beyond your years expert in handling situations in a delicate way, whether at work with with employees and assignments, or personal life events it shows confidence, self – esteem and most of all assertiveness
